Conor McGeown

Director

After graduating with a BSc (Hons) in Sports, Exercise and Leisure from the University of Ulster, Conor McGeown took his career in a new direction by joining the Northern Ireland Civil Service in 2003. He began as Manager of the National Insurance Numbers Section at the Shaftesbury Square Jobs and Benefits Office, before moving to Knockbreda to take up the role of Income Support Benefit Manager.

 

In 2005, he joined the Northern Ireland Audit Office (NIAO) as a Graduate Trainee Accountant and qualified as a professional accountant with the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) in 2008. He currently is a fellow of the Institute and has over 20 years of experience in both financial audit and local value for money audit across a wide range of sectors.

 

Since December 2025, Conor has been a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) within the NIAO. In this role, he oversees the delivery of operational audit work across the Department of Education (DE) sector, the NI Assembly, North/South Bodies, Pensions, and Local Government. He also manages key corporate responsibilities, including risk management. He is passionate about developing and investing in our people and is particularly focused on leveraging the potential of artificial intelligence and enhancing learning and development programmes to nurture the next generation of talent within the office.  

 

Conor lives in Holywood with his wife, three daughters and two dogs. Outside of work, he enjoys golfing, travelling, socialising and supporting his local football team.
