Work in Progress – The Financial Sustainability of Further Education in Northern Ireland
Work in progress
We are currently undertaking work in order to produce this publication. Details of when we aim to publish the finalised report are indicated below.
There are six Further Education (FE) colleges in Northern Ireland which operate on a regional basis, delivering a range of courses including essential skills, vocational and academic programmes. FE colleges are arms-length bodies of the Department for the Economy. The Department is responsible for policy, strategic development and financing of the FE sector in Northern Ireland.
The intended scope of the review will consider a range of issues including:
- the clarity of strategy and priorities in FE policy;
- the cost/efficiency and effectiveness of FE delivery in Northern Ireland; and
- the management and oversight of the sector and the effectiveness of actions taken to improve the financial sustainability of the sector.
We aim to publish our report early in 2027.
