The Northern Ireland Audit Office has expressed its warm congratulations to its outgoing Director Colette Kane, following her inclusion in the King’s New Year Honours list.
Colette was awarded an OBE for services to the Northern Ireland Audit Office by His Majesty, in recognition of her more than 30-years of service to public sector audit.
Joining the NIAO in 1994, Colette’s distinguished career saw her rising quickly through the grades, becoming a Director in 2006. Working at a senior level, she was responsible for leading audits of organisations from across Northern Ireland’s public sector, and supported the Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee on many of their inquiries throughout her tenure.
In March 2021, Colette was appointed Local Government Auditor (LGA). In this role, she worked closely with local councillors and council staff, providing oversight and assurance on councils' use of resources and their arrangements for securing economy, efficiency and effectiveness for ratepayers.
Congratulating Colette Kane on her achievement, Comptroller and Auditor General Dorinnia Carville said:
“Throughout her career, Colette has shown outstanding dedication to establishing and promoting the highest standards of accountability across central and local government. She has consistently provided objective advice, constructive challenge and valued support to officials and political representatives. She has also been a highly respected colleague to NIAO staff, past and present. Across her decades of service, Colette has inspired confidence in public services, promoting good governance and constantly championing the accountability process across the public sector.
On behalf of the NIAO staff and Advisory Board, I would like to extend our deepest congratulations to Colette and her family on this prestigious honour."
