World Kindness Day is more than a date on the calendar, it’s a reminder of the power of compassion and the common thread that connects us all: kindness. It’s an opportunity to shine a light on good deeds happening in our communities and to inspire others to join in.
At the Northern Ireland Audit Office, we believe kindness extends beyond words, it’s about actions. That’s why we offer volunteering opportunities for staff to make a tangible difference. Colleagues have recently rolled up their sleeves and got involved in a number of incredible initiatives:
- Minnowburn Terrace Hill Garden
At the National Trust’s Minnowburn site in South Belfast, volunteers prepared the beautiful Terrace Hill Garden for winter. Armed with spades, wheelbarrows, weeders, rakes, and shovels, they worked together to protect this cherished green space for the colder months ahead. - South Belfast Food Bank
Hunger doesn’t take a holiday, and neither did our volunteers. At the South Belfast Food Bank, staff weighed, sorted, and dated an impressive five tonnes of food in the warehouse, helping ensure families in need receive essential supplies. - Simon Community NI
Supporting those experiencing homelessness is at the heart of Simon Community’s mission. Our team spent the morning potting flowers and painting fences and walls at a residential youth facility on the Antrim Road, creating a welcoming environment for the residents and visitors alike. - Blood Donation with NI Blood Transfusion Service
Kindness can also mean giving the gift of life. The NI Blood Transfusion Service held blood donation sessions at Queen’s University Belfast on Tuesday 7th October, and the office supported a number of staff who attended.
These acts of service may seem small, but together they create ripples of kindness that reach far beyond the day itself. World Kindness Day reminds us that every gesture, whether planting a flower, sorting food, or lending a hand, matters.
